Events `Summit to work towards bridging digital divide' Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Jan. 9 INDIA'S expertise in various e-governance projects, the Param supercomputer and digital certification capabilities for secure e-commerce on the Web, can be reached out to the region, according to Mr S. Lakshminarayanan, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Communications and IT, Government of India. Addressing a press conference ahead of the Second Asian IT Ministers Summit being held here between January 12 and 13, he said, "India has considerable expertise in the areas of telemedicine, digital certification and e-governance projects. Despite being a relatively late entrant compared to the West, we have made rapid strides in various aspects of technology. As many countries in the region look to India as a leader to join IT and particularly in e-governance projects, we plan to showcase them and take them forward beyond the summit." The second essay of Asian IT Ministers is being held in India after the successful event at Seoul in South Korea. The summit would lead to development of consensus on a regional approach to co-operation and sharing of best practices in IT within the region so as to develop enduring partnerships and collaborations, where Indian expertise can be leveraged, he said.
