Our Correspondent

MADURAI: A pilot project of Sakthi, a World Bank-funded project, would be implemented in each village in eight districts from June onwards, Mr N. Murugesan, Consultant for Communications, Sakthi-World Bank Project, has said.

Addressing mediapersons at Dindigul, near here, he said Rs 31 lakh would be spent in each village. The objective is to empower and bring the last person first and address the needs of ultra poor and the disadvantaged. Tuticorin, Namakkal, Sivaganga, Dindigul, Thiruvallur, Theni and Ramanathapuram districts have been selected for the implementation of the pilot project. The experiences would be documented for the preparation of the World Bank-funded project to the tune of Rs 650 crore, to be implemented in six years time. The Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of women has already completed macro-level discussions at the district level, he added.
