Shoulder replacement surgery

KOCHI: The doctors at the Medical Trust Hospital here have performed a shoulder replacement surgery on a patient suffering from arthritis, providing the patient with an artificial shoulder joint.

The shoulder joint is comparable to a ball in a shallow cup. The artificial joint has a plastic cup and a metal ball that were fixed to the patient's bone with bone cement in a three-hour long surgery, a hospital spokesperson said.
