`Insugen' launch this year

`INSUGEN', the first of Biocon's branded products, is slated to hit the national market in the first half of this year.

Biocon was also the first Indian company to submit its DMF (drug master file) before the USFDA for the generic recombinant human insulin, according to its Chairperson, Ms Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw.

Clinical trials are on and it would be launched after the regulator's clearance. The company plans to launch a range of branded cardio-diabetic formulations.

Among its promising pipeline products is the anti-cancer drug, which is undergoing phase 2B trials across the country. It is likely to go before the regulator next month for commercial launch by 2005, Dr A.S. Arvind, COO of R&D subsidiary Clinigene.

Biocon is jointly working on oral insulin product, a market worth $2.2 billion (around Rs 9,955 crore).
