Reliance hikes polyester prices

Our Bureau

Mumbai , March 1

RELIANCE Industries Ltd has raised prices of fibre intermediate and polyester products for March 2004.

Analysts say the increase is a result of the growing international demand for petrochemicals and improved demand within India for naphtha, raw material for making petrochem products.

The increase in prices of mono ethylene glycol is the steepest at Rs 46.60 per kg (Rs 43.65), a 6.8 per cent jump.

Purified terephthalic acid prices are up 6.2 per cent to Rs 39.50 per kg (Rs 37.20).

Among polymers, polyvinyl chloride prices are 4.4 per cent higher at Rs 47.50 per kg (Rs 45.50).

The company has cut prices of polypropylene by 3.1 per cent to Rs 49.25 per kg (Rs 50.85). Polyethylene prices remain unchanged at Rs 50.20 per kg.

Polyethylene terephthalate prices are up 3.4 per cent to Rs 61.50 per kg (Rs 59.50), while polyester staple fibre prices are up 0.8 per cent to Rs 65.50 per kg (Rs 65).

Prices of partially oriented yarn and linear alkyl benzene remain unchanged at Rs 76 per kg and Rs 53.90 per kg, respectively.
