NSS funds mobilisation rises in Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Finance Minister, Mr K. Sankaranarayanan, has said that aggregate deposits amounting to Rs 3,440 crore have been mobilised until January 31, 2004, under the National Savings Scheme.

This is Rs 1,136 core more than last year's realisation for the same period, the Minister said here while addressing a State-level review meeting of field staff working at the district level. The target for aggregate mobilisation for the current year is Rs 5,500 crore, with the net mobilisation target amounting to Rs 2,745 crore.

National Savings scheme is the most important source of funds for developmental works, the Minister told the officials, adding that the latter should show more enthusiasm for achieving targets. The State Government will come out with new policy initiatives in order to encourage field staff achieve even higher level targets in mobilised resources.

Among those who addressed the meeting were Ms Sudha Pillai, Principal Secretary, Finance, Mr V. S. Senthil, Secretary (Expenditure), and district-level officials of the National Savings Scheme.
