Our Bureau

New Delhi , May 25

APOLLO Health and Lifestyle Ltd (AHLL), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Apollo Hospitals Group, is opening the first Apollo Clinic in Doha.

The clinic is being set up in association with one of Doha's large business houses — the Abdullah Bin Qasim Al-Thani Group — that has diversified business interests in the country including a large chain of pharmacies.

Qatar is the first of the international markets identified by Apollo Health. In the next five years, the company plans to set up 250 Apollo Clinics including 30-40 clinics abroad in countries such as South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Mr Ratan Jalan, CEO, Apollo Health, said in a statement, "Our demand studies and research findings have indicated that there exists a need for a strong primary healthcare backbone in many countries in the Asian region. We intend to utilise our expertise, standards and cost competitiveness to tap into this immense opportunity, primarily through the franchise route. The idea is to supplement our expertise in the healthcare domain with the franchise's understanding of the local market."
