Konkan Rly moves to meet challenges during monsoon

Our Bureau

Mumbai , June 1

KONKAN Railway has taken elaborate measures to water down disruption of traffic during the monsoon in the Konkan region, when railway traffic is usually affected due to landslides and heavy downpours.

Konkan Railway, which has spent Rs 60 crore on executing these safety-related works, has laid emphasis on giving a warning to the network about possible natural calamities and take automatic necessary action.

Firstly, while treating lateritic slopes, the organisation has redefined the laid-down engineering standards of Indian Railways and has flattened all such slopes to avoid landslides. The other safety works include fixing high-strength and medium-strength boulder nets over an area of 4.3-lakh sq. m - in all 19,000 such `inclinometers' will be installed along the route.
