Tourism UN body to aid India in tourism promotion Our Bureau

Hyderabad , July 9 THE World Tourism Organisation, an arm of the United Nations, has assured India of all help in promotion and marketing its tourism destinations across the world. Addressing the inaugural of 73rd Executive Council meeting of World Tourism Organisation here, Mr Francesco Frangialli, Secretary-General of the organisation, said Indian tourism recorded one of the highest growth rates in the world last year by recording 60 per cent in its tourist arrivals last year. "The growth rate has been impressive in the first four months of the current year too," he said, hoping that the country would continue its high growth trajectory in the tourism industry during the year. As many as 200 representatives from 40 member countries are attending the three-day meeting. Delivering the inaugural address, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the Chief Minister, said the State had started reorienting its tourism strategy to position Andhra Pradesh as a favoured international and domestic destination.He said his Government would position the tourism industry as a major growth engine.
