New Delhi, Aug. 22

The Government on Sunday said that the apprehensions of truck owners and transport operators on the issue of imposition of service tax were "totally misconceived".

"The Government has reason to believe that the goods transport agents, to suit their own purposes, have wrongly advised truck owners and transport operators to go on a strike," a statement issued by the Finance Ministry said.

It has reiterated to the truck owners and operators that they are not liable to pay any service tax and is willing to further explain the legal position in this regard.
