M.P. Tourism proposal

HYDERABAD: The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Ltd (MPTDC) has decided to tap the huge domestic tourist potential, and is eyeing a 70 per cent jump in revenues for the current fiscal.

The corporation is quite clear about its target. "We are mainly targeting domestic tourists. We are not looking at international tourists," said Mr Ashwani Lohani, Managing Director.

Speaking to presspesons on Monday, he said that the corporation would revamp all its properties. "Within six months we will make them the best in their league."

Mr Lohani said that the State had taken up a major infrastructure development programme. "This would connect all the major tourism destinations with good roads."

As part of its plan to attract tourists into the State, MPTDC has opened an office in Andhra Pradesh which it hopes will act as a gateway for the whole of the South. "The South is a major market for the tourism industry," Mr Lohani said.

The corporation expects to turn around with a turnover of Rs 20 crore this year. "Last year, we closed around Rs 12.5 crore with some losses. We are going to launch a publicity campaign highlighting the tourism potential in the State."

The corporation has lined up roadshows.
