HC strikes AP excise policy

Hyderabad , March 23

A Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court comprising Mr Justice Sudharshan Reddy and Mr Justice C.V. Ramulu has dismissed writ appeals filed by the State Government, by which the excise policy for 2005-06 stands annulled.

The bench observed that the new excise policy proposed to discriminate between the existing licence holder and those who applied for licence for the excise year 2005-06. It, however, left it open to the State Government to reverse its policy for 2005-06.

Meanwhile, the State Government has decided to renew the licences of wine shops for three months in view of the court striking down its decision to cancel the licences and call for fresh applications.

The proposed excise policy was to come into existence from April 1, 2005.
