The Hindu Business Line : European B-School may open facility in India

EUROPEAN Business School (EBS), a business school with university status in Germany, hopes to start a business school in India, for which a team from the university is now on a tour of the country.

Based in Oestrich-Winkel near Frankfurt, EBS has relations with India in the sense that some of its students are sent to various Indian Institutes of Management on exchange programmes.

The team that includes Dr Ronald Gleich, Dean of Executive Education, EBS, is now in Chennai and plans to visit Kochi and Bangalore to evaluate the options available.

During its stay in India, the team will interact with various educational institutions and companies to explore the possibility of starting a business school in India.

Started in 1971, the EBS offers bachelor's, master's and diploma programmes in management besides customised and specialised executive business programmes for various companies.

EBS had specialised management programmes targeted at the real estate industry and healthcare management and had a good ranking in executive education, Dr Gleich said here, during an interaction with journalists of The Hindu group.

It had a turnover of Euros 18 million, 50 per cent of which came from executive education.

EBS had identified several niche management subjects such as innovation management and entrepreneurship.

EBS believed that there was good scope for executive education programmes in India, offering them with a strong European focus.

The EBS could take care of the academic side and the investors would provide the funding required for the venture.

There was also possibility of attracting students from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and West Asia to the business school as and when it was started, they said.
