STAR NEWS plans to come up with more entertainment-based news programmes and would be shortly launching a programme on Bollywood news, Khabar Filmi Hai.

This programme would be on the lines of Saas Bahu Aur Saajish, which looks into the various aspects of the television industry.

The channel, according to a recent TAM report, has achieved the number one position among all news channel in the Hindi speaking markets, with an average market share of 25 per cent between July 31 and August 6. It reportedly has a 33 per cent market share in Mumbai, while Aaj Tak's market share has dropped to 28 per cent.

The channel is also supposed to be the leader in the other metros with a 28 per cent market share, while Aaj Tak has a 25 per cent share.

The channel, as per the TAM report, shares a joint number one position with Aaj Tak in terms of the total market share.

Mr Uday Shankar, CEO, Star News, looks at the ratings as a positive trend and attributes the channel's success to its people-centric programming. "We went beyond the stereotype of news which concentrated on a handful of influential people and focused on news which impacted the lives of common man."

He said that the channel is looking at updating its programming menu frequently and come up with a new at least once in three months. "We want to be the preferred channel of the people and we would focus only on programmes that would impact the life of people," he said.
