Broadcom eyes buys in India

Our Bureau

Bangalore , Dec. 1

BROADBAND communications semiconductor major, Broadcom, said on Thursday that it was actively looking at acquiring companies in India.

Broadcom's President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Scott A. McGregor, told a news conference that some Indian companies were on its `radar' for acquisitions.

He said the company normally acquires one or two companies every quarter. Broadcom has nearly 200 employees in Bangalore, up from 30 when it started operations in India in 1999 through its acquisition of Armedia.

He said Broadcom had moved the research and development operations to a new facility in Bangalore. Broadcom is expected to continue growing in India as it expands design teams to provide additional R&D resources to support new and existing business opportunities globally.

In addition to the Athena team, Broadcom has around 140 engineers in India working on set-top box, networking infrastructure and wireless products.

The development of Broadcom India's R&D capabilities has resulted in more than 1,000 patents.
