Mangalore , March 23

New Mangalore Port has started handling highest parcel size vessels at the newly constructed deep-draught multipurpose general cargo berth.

A press release from the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) said here on Thursday that 71,730 tonnes of iron ore fines were loaded into m.v. Ocean Sereya that called at the port on March 20. The vessel with a draught of 13.9 metres left the port for China on March 22.

This is the highest parcel of iron ore fines handled at the port manually in a single vessel.

The release said that m.v. Ocean Senang, carrying coal cargo, berthed at the port on March 23. The vessel with a draught of 14 metres started discharging the cargo for various firms in Karnataka. This is also the highest parcel of coal handled at the port.

These two vessels were handled at the deep-draught berth. Large-size vessels have started calling at the port after the deep-draught berth became operational, the release added.
