Chennai port sets new record in handling granite

Chennai , April 25

The Chennai port created a new record on April 23 by handling 6,946 tonnes of granite blocks in the vessel Voyager.

The previous record was 5,903 tonnes handled on April 29 last year in the vessel Windsor Castle.

Target

The port handled 10.88 lakh tonnes of granite blocks during 2005-06 and plans to handle 15 lakh tonnes during the current fiscal.

The steamer agent for the vessel was A.S. Shipping Services (P) Ltd and the stevedore was Viking Shipping.

The cargo for China came from mines in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, according to a Chennai Port Trust press release.
