Precision Automation to set up engg research centre

Our Bureau

To be operational by September this year

The centre would house more than 150 design engineers and would be equipped with the latest modelling, simulation, analysis, plant layout and electrical computer-aided design software. The foundation programme would span over a period of six months.

Pune , July 6

To tackle the growing requirement of personnel in the robotics and automation segment, the Pune-based Precision Automation Robotics India Ltd is setting up an Engineering Research and Training Centre. The centre will be operational by September this year.

Talking to presspersons, Dr Ranjit Date and Mr Mangesh Kale, co-founders of the company, said the complex, set up on an two-acre campus, would incur an investment of Rs 5 crore. Another Rs 5 crore would be utilised at the centre over the next two years. The centre is being set up to develop advanced robotic technologies, design and engineer innovative robotic products and solutions. He, however, noted that this venture would be later spun off as a separate entity.

Dr Date said the centre would house more than 150 design engineers and would be equipped with the latest modelling, simulation, analysis, plant layout and electrical computer-aided design software. It would also have 25,000 sq ft of office laboratories and workshops, while providing residential facility for the personnels.

Mr N.R. Kulkarni, Head of Training and Knowledge, said the laboratory and training classrooms would have facilities for training 100 engineers and technicians per year.

The course, which will have a duration of one year, will have 50 students each and have two such batches per year.

He noted that the training has already commenced since the beginning of this month and currently there were about 38 students on its rolls.

The foundation programme would span over a period of six months and students would be rotated through various departments for `hands on training'.

Mr Kale noted that the initial idea is to absorb these students who successfully complete the course into its own fold. For this students are being offered stipend and other facilities. He said that the current requirement in the domestic market was close to 500 robotics and automation specialists.

Dr Date said the company has closed the last fiscal with a revenue turnover of Rs 75 crore and is estimating a gross sale of Rs 120 crore for the current year. He added that the order-book position currently stood at Rs 70 crore.
