Airlines Marketing - Promotions & Offers Indian launches last-minute discount tickets Our Bureau
New Delhi , Aug 16 Till the end of September, deciding to take a domestic flight at the last minute with Indian could actually work out to be a financially rewarding experience. The airline recently launched spot fares that offer seats on flights till a few hours before takeoff at rates that are 65-70 per cent lower than the regular economy fares. The reduced fares on offer are available from 22 airports including Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Vizag, Madurai, Kochi, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Goa. The fares, which would only be available if there is an empty seat on the flight, are sold on a first-come first-serve basis, said senior airline officials. "In cities like Delhi and Mumbai from where the airline has around 40 daily departures, it would be a real boon for the passenger as these flights are available on all the flights operated," they added. A passenger wanting to take a 1 p.m. flight could call the call centre, log onto the Web site or go to the airport around 7 a.m. and fly at reduced rates. In the six metros, passengers also have the option of calling the airline's 24 call centres, paying for the purchase through a credit card and taking delivery of the tickets at the airport curb side. The new strategy follows the concept that an airline seat is a perishable commodity and any seat going empty is a revenue loss.
