HCL Infosystems net rises 18.6 pc in Q4

Higher sales of computers and mobiles boost performance

New Delhi , Aug. 23

HCL Infosystems Ltd on Wednesday announced that its fourth quarter net profit rose 18.6 per cent to Rs 70 crore compared to Rs 59 crore during the corresponding period last year.

Riding on better sales of computers, mobile phones and office automation products, HCL's consolidated total revenue surged to Rs 3,149 crore during the quarter ended June 30 from Rs 2,198 crore in the corresponding period last year.

The consolidated results include those of HCL's wholly owned subsidiaries, HCL Infinet Ltd and Microcomp Ltd. On a standalone basis HCL's net profit dipped 17 per cent to Rs 26.88 crore during the fourth quarter compared to Rs 32.42 crore during the corresponding period last year.

Revenue from the computer systems business grew 21 per cent to Rs 2381.4 crore against Rs 1970.9 crore in the previous year. Revenue from the telecommunication and office automation business is Rs 9049.8 crore (Rs 5779.3 crore), a growth of 57 per cent.

For the full year ended June 30, the company's consolidated net profit jumped to Rs 280 crore (Rs 228 crore). Total revenue during the year grew 46.2 per cent to Rs 11,454 crore from Rs 7,787 crore. The HCL board of directors recommended a final dividend of Rs 2 per share.

Announcing the results, Mr Ajai Chowdhry, Chairman and CEO, HCL Infosystems, said, "Yet again, this year has been a landmark year for all of us at HCL, as we continued to make bold inroads to strengthen our technology leadership and conquer new avenues for growth. Foraying into notebooks, creating `technological verticals' by developing industry-specific products, continuing developmental initiatives to enhance overall PC penetration and drawing the future roadmap to spearhead digital lifestyle era in the nation — it has been a busy year of achievements & milestones for HCL."

HCL Infosystems' share price went up by Rs 2.20 to Rs 162.65 today on the BSE. The company's share price had touched a 52-week high of Rs 279 per share on December 30, 2005, and a low of Rs 115.65 on June 8, 2006.
