Visakhapatnam, Aug. 29

The Union Government is planning to introduce a Bill on the new mining policy in the winter session of Parliament, according to Mr T. Subbirami Reddy, the Union Minister of State for Mining.

He said at a press meet here that the objective of the policy would be to exploit the mineral wealth of the country by encouraging new technologies and attracting investments. He said a 500-page draft report had been prepared on the matter and the Planning Commission and other agencies were discussing it. It would be sent to the Prime Minister in September and later the Cabinet would discuss it. The mineral wealth, properly used, would add Rs 50,000 crore to the GDP, he added.
