New Delhi , Sept 4 The Manufacturers' Association for Information Technology (MAIT), the apex body representing IT manufacturers, today signed an MoU with the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA) to strengthen and deepen economic, trade and investment between the two countries. Under the MoU, both organisations will support activities such as regular exchange of industrial intelligence, seminars and training by Japanese and Indian specialists in both countries. They will also facilitate exchange of academicians and business professionals. The MoU envisages increasing contacts between the regulatory bodies of both Governments with regard to information and communications technology (ICT). The Japanese Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Mr Yutaka Kobayashi, stressed on formation of an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) as both Japan and India are WTO members. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rajendra Kumar, immediate past President of MAIT, said: "I am confident that this initiative will encourage Indian and Japanese companies to reinvigorate links in the electronics and IT sectors. The Indian electronics market was worth $20 billion in 2005 and is growing at 30 per cent a year. It will reach $363 billion by 2015. The time is right for India and Japanese industry to collaborate." A joint Indo-Japanese taskforce on ICT is developing a roadmap for increased co-operation to leverage the advantages of both countries in this field.
