Chennai , Sept. 5

Borland Software India Private Ltd — a subsidiary of $300 million US-based Borland Software Corporation — and Hexaware Technologies Ltd, have announced an alliance to set up a centre of excellence at Hexaware's premises in Chennai.

This is the first such centre set up by Borland in India with a partner. Globally, it has such a tie up with EDS, Accenture and Microsoft, said Mr Satyen Parikh, Managing Director, Borland India.

Services Provided

As part of the alliance, Borland India will provide visual modelling and designing, change management solutions, training and consulting services to Hexaware. The centre will serve as a technology incubation hub and provide training, evaluation software, online learning, technical seminars and solution demonstration to software professionals at Hexaware, he told presspersons.

The centre will provide access to "Borland Application Lifecycle Management" software solutions to project directors/managers, delivery heads, analysts, architects and testers at Hexaware, said Mr P.K. Sridharan, Executive Director and President, India Operations, Hexaware.

Hexaware will provide hardware resources at the centre, which will serve as a technology incubation hub for various project teams of the company. The Mumbai-based software company plans to train more than 2,000 of its professionals on Borland software in the next six months, said Mr R.V. Ramanan, Senior Vice-President, Hexaware, which provides information technology and business process outsourcing services.

Training

Initially, about Rs 2.5 crore will be invested in the centre, which will have around 25 consultants working on Borland software, he said. Borland, which has a 16-member marketing team in India and Hexaware will also engage in joint go-to-market activities, including joint solutions and joint selling and marketing activities. Hexaware will provide training, implementation and professional services to Borland customers from time-to-time. It will be able to avail of special discounts on Borland products, he said.

Hexaware will provide a dedicated team for the centre. The team will undergo an extensive training programme called `Train the Trainer' and build in-house expertise on Borland technologies, he said.
