Outlook GM to launch Aveo-UVA with scaled-down engine capacity Our Bureau
New Delhi , Sept. 8 General Motors India said on Friday that it would launch its hatchback model `Aveo-UVA' by November/ December with less engine capacity, so that the company could avail itself of the excise duty cut benefit announced in this year's Budget. "We expect to launch a 1.2-litre petrol engine driven Aveo-UVS by November-December this year," the GM (India) Vice-President (Corporate Affairs), Mr P. Balendran, said on the sidelines of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India. "This model would get us the benefit of excise duty cut announced by the Finance Minister,'' he said, adding that the company was looking at launching two variants of the model. He also said that the company's small car `Chevy Spark' is expected to be launched by April next year and will be rolled out from its facility at Halol in Gujarat. Mr Balendran said the company's new plant at Talegaon in Maharashtra is expected to start production by October 2008 and will produce the small car with an initial capacity of 1,40,000 units.
