Formula for success
Chromatography is a technique of separating biomolecules in new drug discovery, vaccine development and manufacturing, generic drugs production and research.
It can improve the yield and quality of the final product.

Bangalore , Sept. 8

Bio-Rad Laboratories, the US-based biotechnology solutions company, said it has joined hands with the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, to promote cost-effective solutions for the Indian biotechnology and biopharma industry.

ICT will provide technical expertise in separation solutions at its facility while Bio-Rad will offer product support to a growing industry, Bio-Rad said in a release here. Together they would supply the `missing link' between lab-scale technologies and successful commercial ventures, according to Dr Arvind Lali of ICT.

Chromatography is a trusted and established technique of separating biomolecules in new drug discovery, vaccine development and manufacturing, generic drugs production and research. When used effectively, it can improve the yield and quality of the final product, Dr Lali said.

"The broad objective of the initiative is to develop the science of chromatographic separation and generate manpower for the Indian biopharma Industry. It is also aimed at providing an equipped laboratory facility where developmental work can be carried out," said Mr Himanshu, Division Manager, Life Sciences, Bio-Rad.

Industry can use the lab and Bio-Rad's consumables free of charge or consult ICT, according to Mr Siddharth Puranik, Marketing Manager of the Gurgaon-based Bio-Rad India. Bio-Rad makes and distributes life science research and clinical diagnostic products and its Indian subsidiary has been operating for 10 years through four branches.

Dr Lali earlier addressed a Bio-Rad-sponsored awareness seminar for biotechnologists and scientists on the latest chromatographic separations in Bangalore on Friday.
