The Tamil Nadu Minister for Commercial Taxes, Mr S.N.M. Ubayadulla, inaugurated the first Tamil portal for value added tax (VAT), www.tnvat.com, designed by the city-based VAT and service tax consultant, Mr S. Sridharan. The portal, besides providing commentary on the provisions of VAT law, offers detailed explanation and FAQs in Tamil. It will facilitate easy compliance even by small traders, it is said. The consultant had earlier, in 2001, come up with a portal www.stvat.com, highlighting issues in the design of VAT.
