The Hindu Business Line : KEL to set up IT park in Konaje

The UAE-based Kanara Entrepreneurs Ltd (KEL) is planning to set up a hi-tech information technology (IT) infrastructure park on 50 acres of land at Konaje in Mangalore taluk.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr Jerome Saldanha, President of KEL, said that the aim of the project is to provide infrastructure facilities for IT and other technology companies in the proposed infrastructure park.

Stating that KEL has been allotted around 50 acres of land for the project in the proposed IT special economic zone (SEZ) at Konaje, he said work on it would begin soon. "We are in the last stages of finalising contract on the project," he said.

Asked about the employment opportunities in the proposed hi-tech city, Mr Saldanha said it would provide jobs to nearly 12,000 people over a period of five years, after the completion of the hi-tech city project.

Thanking the Union Government for permitting the operation of international flights from Mangalore, Mr Saldanha, who is an NRI businessman from the UAE, said that the direct flight service between Mangalore and Dubai would help them in bringing more investments to coastal Karnataka.

He said that successful entrepreneurs and business executives have founded KEL to encourage and support entrepreneurship. Identifying new investment opportunities and providing new employment opportunities are some of the objectives of KEL, he added.
