Tea Fair demand for orthodox leaf Our Bureau
Total tea offerings this week amounted to 6.71-lakh kg, of which leaf grades accounted for 2.93 lakh kg and the balance accounted for dust. Demand was fair for the Orthodox leaf grades with shippers to CIS and other exporters trading actively at these counters. The rates improved by Rs 2-3/kg. There were, however, some withdrawals, especially of fannings. There were fewer enquiries for the Orthodox dust. Bright liquoring CTC leaf witnessed some demand from upcountry buyers. HLL remained quite and Pakistan buyers were less active. Iraq absorbed most of the smaller brokens and fannings. While the bright liquoring teas quoted lower by Re. 1 to Rs 2 a kg, the medium plainer bolder grades remained barely steady, while the rest were lower by Rs 2-3 a kg. There was a fair demand for CTC dust but at easier levels. The market was irregular and lower by Re 1 to Rs 3 for all categories. Major blenders remained selective. AVT and Indcoserve operated on good liquoring teas, albeit selectively. The Orthodox highgrown was quoting between Rs 78-91, while good CTC dusts were between Rs 61 and Rs 77.
