Thiruvananthapuram , Dec. 1

Sun Microsystems India has made its entry into Kerala with the commencement of its operations in Thiruvananthapuram in partnership with Accel Frontline Ltd.

This forms part of the company's expansion plans covering 18 tier-III cities and towns in the country. It has recently started operations in Coimbatore and Trichy.

Mr Ganesh Mahabala, Regional Director, South, Sun Microsystems, told newspersons here on Friday that the company chose to start its operations in Thiruvananthapuram in view of large number of business units in the region.

He said the company's expansion was driven by `strategic regional partner' model. Sun would select partners for each of the identified regions and would conduct intensive training and enabling sessions for them.

Mr Mahabala said Sun would reach out to a wide base of customers in the city in segments such as education and research, government and manufacturing, apart from small and medium businesses.
