a1books enters Indian online retail space

Kolkata Feb. 2 The $26 million-turnover a1books of the US has extended its footprint to the online books retailing space in India. The company's site www.a1books.co.in has already gone live and is stated to be the largest online book marketplace in India at present.

According to Mr Abhish Moraje, COO of a1books, the company has already forged tie-ups with over 100 Indian publishers and international distributors - including Ingram of the US and Gardners Books UK — and with over one million Indian and international titles on sale, a1books was hopeful of creating a "revolution" in the Indian books industry.

The company was in the process of signing up with more Indian publishers and distributors with a view to providing its clientele with a wider range of choices.

Mr Moraje declined to divulge the company's revenue targets from sales in India.
