Our Bureau

Chennai March 26 The Shriharikota Centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation took delivery of a mobile launch pedestal manufactured by KCP Ltd here today.

Addressing the handing over function, Dr M. Annamalai, Director, Sriharikota Centre, ISRO, said that this was the centre's second mobile launch pedestal and would play a key role in its satellite launch programmes.

The job, which took over one and half years to make mobile launch platform weighing 600 tonnes using metal sheets of thickness ranging from 10 mm to 120 mm, was "a demonstration of the private sector capability".

It is on such platforms that the launch vehicles carrying remote sensing and communication satellites are built. Partnership with the private sector was a key factor for ISRO, he said.

Dr V.L. Dutt, Chairman, KCP Ltd, handed over the inspection documents to Dr Annamalai to mark the formal handing over of the mobile launch pedestal.
