Virus targets Apple iPod

Our Bureau

Coimbatore, April 10

F-Secure has informed the receipt of a sample iPod virus — Oslo.zip — targeted at Apple's iPod. According to F-Secure, the virus replicates only on iPods running the iPod Linux Operating system enabling it to run a variety of third party software such as games.

Considered a Proof-of-Concept virus for a rare operating system, F-Secure does not envisage Oslo.zip to trigger real world problem. "The receipt of the sample, however, indicates that new platforms such as portable devices are being actively targeted," say F-Secure sources.
