Bangalore, July 6

Cabling firms are riding high on India’s data centre boom. For cabling firms, the data centre opportunity in India is expected to double by 2009.

India is recording the fastest growth in the cabling industry at 22 per cent. Cabling for data centres is growing at 46 per cent –— another scorching pace set by India, according to a study commissioned by structured cabling firm Systimax Solutions.

In 2005, 13.8 per cent of the structured cabling business in the region came from data centres but research suggests that in 2010, they will contribute about 32 per cent of the structured cabling business in the region. Financial services, transportation, IT and media houses are setting up more data centres, said Mr Raju Chellam, Vice-President, Asia Pacific, AMI Partners, an independent analyst firm.

The Indian market opportunity is estimated to be worth around $100 million now.

The primary challenges for IT managers of data centres are keeping ahead of access capability and storage capacity, said Dr Ispran Kandasamy, MD-Asia Pacific, Systimax SolutionsA bank loses $2 million and a transportation firm $9,00,000 per hour of downtime. Cabling firms can ensure that the network remains up at all times. In 2010, the Indian structured cabling market will be worth $345 million, according to AMI Partners. The structured cabling market in Asia Pacific (including Japan) should touch $1.53 billion by 2010, with a compounded annual growth rate of 11 per cent from 2005 to 2010.
