ArcelorMittal looking for technology partner

To support back-end operations in emerging markets

Hyderabad, Dec. 21 Global steel major ArcelorMittal is scouting for an information technology partner to support its back-end operations in emerging markets such as India and China, according to Mr Malay Mukherjee, Group Management Board Member, ArcelorMittal.

In this connection, Mr Mukherjee had a breakfast meeting with the Chairman of Satyam Computers, Mr B. Ramalinga Raju, in Hyderabad today.

Mr Mukherjee said the partnership, if formed, would encompass IT solutions in energy management processes, synchronising daily operations, data management, creating graphic models for engineers in designing processes and online measurement of mechanical properties.

The ArcelorMittal official was speaking at ‘India – The knowledge hub’, a seminar organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry here on Friday.

Deal with Satyam

When asked by newspersons about the outcome of his meeting with the Satyam Chief, and the likelihood of forging a deal with the company on IT partnership, Mr Mukherjee evaded a directly reply.

Mr Ramalinga Raju, who also participated in the CII meet, said: “We discussed the various challenges being faced by the steel industry, and how IT industry could provide solutions to key concerns.”
