Hardware Marketing - Strategy BenQ broadens portfolio of customised products V. Rishi Kumar Hyderabad, Dec. 23 Diversified Taiwanese digital products manufacturer BenQ has expanded its portfolio of customised products in India targeting specialised applications in education, business process outsourcing and medical and health sectors. These cover widescreen LCD monitors, low noise projectors and complement the existing range of products. The Head of Marketing and Communications, BenQ India, Mr Ish Bawa, said the company has announced the launch of what the company claimed was first 15.4-inch widescreen LCD monitor in the Indian market. This offers enhanced and more comfortable viewing experience compared to the conventional 15-inch wide screen ones. BenQ’s approach has been to bring about products that differentiate and target a distinct set of users. The company launched about a dozen projectors and 15 LCD products during 2007 and expects to bring out more products in 2008. The roll out of new products both in the LCDs and projectors is part of the company’s efforts to tailor some of the products to suit specific segments such as business process outsourcing, which require conferencing features, and medical and heath segment, he said. “For instance, most of the IT and BPO companies use 15-inch square monitors. But when they move to 15-inch wide LCD monitor, the viewing area actually becomes lesser. Therefore, we have launched 15.4 inch monitor that enhances the viewing area without actually enhancing rates,” he said. Hospitals and educational institutions are mostly very brightly lit. Therefore, these LCD monitors unlike cathode ray tube monitors, capture colours much better and provide distortion-free viewing making it a lot more comfortable, he said. These projectors can also project images on a blackboard and fit well into business and educational usage. During his visit to Hyderabad, Mr Bawa said that the company, a $18-billion global corporation, is now present in India through computing products, digital media and mobile business.
