Hardware Axiom sets up R&D facility in Manipal Our Bureau Mangalore, Dec. 23Axiom Design Automation India — the semiconductor design solutions company — has set up a research and development facility at Manipal. Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Mr R. Ravi Shankar, Managing Director of Axiom Design Automation India, said that the facility will house a team of engineers, contributing to Axiom’s high-end ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) design and verification solutions line. “With this, Axiom has become the first semiconductor design solution company to set up facility in the region,” he said. headcountThe company is planning to reach a headcount of more than 70 engineers at the Manipal facility by the end of 2008. To develop domain expertise in the area, Axiom is partnering with Manipal University to empower education in the domain of ASIC design and verification by donating tools worth over $0.5 million and organising several workshops for faculty members, he said, adding that the company may partner with more universities for this initiative. To a query on the prospects of the semiconductor industry in the region, he said it could be the next wave after IT/BPO in the region. High retention levels and the quality manpower available will help in the growth of the industry in Mangalore region, he added. Mr V.
