Joost buys Nimbus clip rights

Mumbai, March 23

Nimbus Sport International Pvt. Ltd has said that Joost, a global online television platform, had acquired the on-demand Internet clip rights for the Barclays Premier League in the Indian sub-continent and nine other regions globally. Joost will have exclusive rights in India, Hong Kong, Japan, West Asia, North Africa, Brazil, Belgium, Greece and Portugal.

Joost’s registered subscribers will be able to view highlights of all Barclays Premier League matches after each fixture round as part of a dedicated advertising-funded Barclays Premier League channel. Nimbus Sport was awarded the Internet and mobile clip rights for the Barclays Premier League for the three seasons from 2007/08 to 2009/10. Created by the founders of Skype, Joost is a system for distributing TV shows and other forms of video over the Web using peer-to-peer TV technology,

The Barclays Premier League will comprise a total of 1,140 football matches to be played over three years until the end of the 2009-10 season. The current season, encompassing 380 matches, kicked off on August 11, 2007 and will end in Mid-may 2008. –
