Hardware Marketing - Channels and Franchises Toshiba favours multiple distributors for laptops
‘We continue to expect HCL to remain a leading distributor for Toshiba Notebook PCs in India and are sure we will continue to draw from each other’s strengths’
Our Bureau New Delhi, April 5 In view of the rapidly-growing and fast-changing market for laptops in India, Toshiba and HCL Infosystems have decided to “expand” the current distribution model for laptops in the country, as part of which Toshiba would now go for multiple distributors. HCL, in practice, was the only distributor of Toshiba notebook PCs in India, so far. When contacted, Mr George Paul, Executive Vice-President (Marketing), HCL said, “We do not see any material impact on our revenues… it will be offset by the fast growing laptop market for both HCL and Toshiba.” In a joint statement issued here, a Toshiba spokesperson said, “In line with industry trend and direction of Toshiba, we are moving towards a multiple distribution model in India, along with HCL. HCL has been an important and the oldest partner for Toshiba in India and would continue to remain as one of the most important distributors for Toshiba Notebook PC in India, as a part of our multi-distributor model in India.” “We continue to expect HCL to remain a leading distributor for Toshiba Notebook PCs in India and are sure that we will continue to draw from each other’s strengths for continued partnership,” the Toshiba spokesperson added. According to an HCL Infosystems spokesperson, “The HCL-Toshiba relationship has grown tremendously over the last decade and this relationship has been mutually rewarding for us to be Toshiba’s trusted partner and for Toshiba to be able to enjoy a national reach with HCL’s network.” Nokia distributionIt may be recalled that in February 2006, HCL Infosystems, then sole distributor of Nokia mobile phones in India, had entered into a revised agreement with Finland-based Nokia to split the distribution business. Under a new five-year agreement, both the companies would jointly distribute the mobile handsets in the country. More Stories on : Hardware | Channels and Franchises
