Kolkata firm launches Budget-compliant excise software for SMEs

Kolkata, April 10

Coral Soff’wares Ltd, specialising in packaged Central Excise Software (X-ise) for SMEs, has released a new version of its ‘X-ise’ software, incorporating the changes in Central Excise Rules, which became operational from the midnight of Budget day. The company expects to release a fully upgraded Budget 2008-compliant excise software soon.

Talking to Business Line here recently, Mr P.C. Kankaria, Managing Director of Coral Soff’wares, said such updates would ensure continuity of business practices for all central excise assessees using the software.

He said the new version takes care of the changes in Cenvat Credit Rules 2004, relating to duty payable on removal of used capital goods from the factory of a manufacturer.

Pointing out that Central Excise record-keeping, in the context of changing duty structures periodically, would be a challenging task before the Government, which was now engaged in preparation of a roadmap to move towards a GST system by 2010, he said there has to be clear demarcation of the respective roles of both the assessee and the Central Government.

Citing the areas which offered scope to the company in the current financial accounting packages scenario for SMEs, he said development of a new software framework to prevent Cenvat frauds was an important area of future development. The company is planning to set up a major R&D centre in Salt Lake area.
