DoT may review M&A norms

Our Bureau

New Delhi, May 1 The Department of Telecom may review its mergers and acquisition guidelines following criticism from the industry. The guidelines, which were released on April 22, have been withdrawn from the DoT Web site. Though no official reason was given for withdrawing the document, sources said that the move may indicate a possible relook at the policy.

The telecom industry had sought various clarifications on the stringent measures put in by DoT which made it impossible for existing telecom companies to acquire or merge for the next three years. The Cellular Operators’ Association of India had shot off a note to DoT seeking clarity on some of the proposals.
