Our Bureau Hyderabad, June 20 Mr B. Ramalinga Raju, Chairman of the $2.2-billion Satyam Computer, is on a different mission: to save about a million lives a year through the company’s corporate social responsibility emergency services arm — EMRI. “This is a passionate engagement which gives greater pleasure than any luxury money can buy. As we touch more people, helping them during emergencies, the impact of the emergency ambulance service offered through the number 108 will gradually be felt across the country,” Mr Raju said. “Projects such as this are not cheque book charity, which many people can anyway do. It is about doing things which impact the environment we work in,” he said. “From our initial presence in Andhra Pradesh, where we save nearly 1 lakh people a year, we are now present in several States, and likely to gradually roll out services across the country. We have enquiries from overseas too,” Mr Raju said, speaking at an interactive meet on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) hosted by the US Consulate and the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, here on Friday.
