Mumbai, Nov. 18 Nuance, the US-based speech and image solutions provider, is initiating talks with automobile manufacturers Toyota, General Motors, Volkswagen, Ford, Hyundai and Renault to provide speech-enabled navigations systems in their cars in India.

“Most of these automobile manufacturers are our clients in the US and Europe. We are starting talks with them in India too,” said Mr Arnd Weil, General Manager, Automotive Business Unit, Nuance.

Fiat is already using the speech-enabled navigation system developed by Nuance in its Fiat 500 in India. The company is expected to install the same technology in some of its other models too. According to sources, Ford is also keen on installing speech-enabled navigation system in its models.

“The speech technology can considerably reduce driver distractions,” said Mr Weil. The company has initiated talks with Indian automobile manufacturers too.

“Land Rover and Jaguar, owned by Tata Motors, are already our clients. We will talk to the parent company, Tata Motors as well. But it is too early to talk about it,” said Mr Sunny Rao, Vice-President and General Manager (India and ASEAN operations), Nuance.
