The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has notified a panel of auditors to certify the metering and billing systems of service providers.

In accordance with the provisions of its Quality of Service (Code of Practise for Metering and Billing Accuracy) Regulation 2006, which directs telecom service providers to arrange for an audit of their metering and billing system on an annual basis through one of the auditors notified by TRAI, the regulator has empanelled RITES Ltd, S R Batliboi & Associates, M.M. Nissim and Company, TUV South Asia Pvt Ltd, Anil Ashok & Associates and Sanjay Gupta & Associates in its list of auditors, a TRAI statement said.

Audit certificate

The auditors are expected to submit to TRAI an audit certificate by June 30 every year, the release said. Service providers, as per the Regulation, have to take corrective action on any inadequacies pointed out in the audit certificate and to file with TRAI an action taken report before September 30 of every financial year.

Due to the delay in the finalisation of the panel, however, TRAI has decided to extend the time for filing of the audit report for the current year to October 31 and filing of the action taken report by service providers to December 31, it said.
