Google launched a new flagship Android phone on Thursday, a Nexus 5 made by Korean firm LG which runs the latest version of the mobile operating system dubbed 'KitKat'.
The phone, which sports a 5-inch (12.7 cm) high definition display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip and an advanced 8 megapixel rear camera, offers up to 17 hours of talk time and is available in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Japan and Korea. It is coming soon to India. The price of the phone starts at $ 349.
Google described the new Android version as “smarter and more immersive,” and stressed its ability to work on lower-end Android phones which have smaller memories than the top-line models.
“With KitKat, we’ve slimmed down Android’s memory footprint... and now Android can run comfortably on the 512MB of RAM devices that are popular in much of the world,” said Sundar Pichai, Google’s executive in charge of Android.
KitKat also offers an updated Hangouts app that groups all of a user’s messages together, and tighter integration of the Google Now information service into the basic functioning of the phone.
