SC refuses to interfere with consumer forums' orders
R. SRINIVASAN (`RS') had suffered loss which was squarely covered by the policy of insurance granted by the insurance company. Since his claim is not being questioned on merits, and is being sought to be defeated on the technical plea, we are not prepare d to interfere with the orders passed by the District Forum, the State Commission and the National Commission, particularly as it is stated before us that the whole of the claim amount has already been paid to the claimant.

Maintenance dredging -- Kochi port to invite global tenders
KOCHI Port has decided to go for global tenders for maintenance dredging this year also in order to keep the required draught in the channel for the smooth movement of vessels.

2 port workers' unions serve strike notice
PORT workers unions representing about one lakh port workers at the 11 major ports in the country have given threatened to go on an indefinite strike from May 2 if their main demands for retaining the wage settlement period once in every five years and p ayment of HRA including arrears with effect from January 1, 1998 are not conceded by the Government.

Mundra port handles 66,750 tonnes cargo
THE Mundra port, promoted by the Gujarat Adani Port Ltd (GAPL) has handled a cargo of 66,750 tonnes during the last four days.
