Karnataka co-op bank

It is bad news `Karnataka co-op bank may be on the verge of collapse' (Business Line, January 23) shaking a series of subordinate co-operative banks.

The main reason appears to be crop failure and consequent accumulation of large volumes of non-performing assets. T

his has also prompted the farmers to commit suicide, and posed other difficulties.

In spite of repeated assurances and loud talk of introducing crop insurance, nothing appears to have happened. The Government should take urgent action in this regard.
