Our Bureau

KOCHI, Feb. 25

A GOOD general demand resulted in the spurting of prices of almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction last week.

Of the quantity of 850,000 kg on offer in the dust category, CTC market opened steady to firm. Later it becomes dearer, especially better types, as the sale progressed. Orthodox highgrown dusts were easier, while mediums remained steady.

The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 50-68, medium CTC realised Rs 36-48 and poorer type were quoted at Rs 32-35. Medium BOPD fetched Rs 30-37 whereas Secondaries were quoted at Rs 20-23.

The leaf sale also witnessed a good general demand and the quantity on offer was 435,000 kg. Orthodox leaf market fully firm to sometimes dearer especially bottom teas.

CTCs steady to firm and occasionally dearer. CIS buyers and other exporters lent fair support.
