Export target for handicrafts set at $1,600 m

NEW DELHI, April 8

THE Government has set an export target of $1,600 million for the handicrafts sector during the financial year 2002-03.

This was stated by Mr V. Dhananjaya Kumar, Minister of State for Textiles, in his inaugural address at a four-day Indian Furniture, Floorings & Accessories Show organised by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) here.

For the year 2001-02, exports of handicrafts (other than hand-knotted carpets) stood at Rs 6,769.50 crore ($1,428.47 million).
