Collapse of banks

This refers to `NPAs continue to haunt banks' (Business Line, July 10). The sad story of NPA accumulation continues unabated with no end in sight.

This is despite the liberal norms of NPA classification, compared to international norms.

The present scenario of the high cost of each and every item as compared to the income levels is being reflected in lesser and lesser sales of various items affecting the profitability of companies and this results in increased NPAs.

If the Government is bothered only about the fiscal deficit and if the present industry/consumer hostile situation continues, many companies and banks will simply collapse in due course of time.
