Logo for Indian tea launched

KOCHI, Oct. 27

IN a bid to boost consumption of Indian tea in Russia, a new logo for Indian tea — India - World Gold Standard — has been launched in Moscow.

The logo was launched by the Indian Ambassador on Friday in the presence of an Indian tea delegation headed by Mr N.K. Das, Chairman, Tea Board.

Mr N. Dharmaraj, Chairman, Upasi Tea Committee, told Business Line from Moscow that the launch was attended by wide section of the Russian tea trade and media. The launch ``followed the recommendation made by Accenture working on a medium-term export strategy for Indian tea. '' It is expected to help step up the sagging export of Indian tea to Russia'', he said.

Originally, the use of the logo will be extended to packing done in India. However, talks were held by the Indian delegation with the tea trade in Russia about the possibility of extending the use of the logo to packers in Russia. He said tea packed in Russia enjoyed a duty rebate of 20 per cent.

The India tea logo, he said, would carry a certain quality standard and would be administered by a suitable body under the aegis of the Tea Board on satisfactory assurance of quality standard of tea packaging.

The launch would be followed by print and visual media advertisements of Indian tea in Russia, he added.
